Well, it’s December 7th, and just another day at the office, or school, or getting ready for the holidays. But, today is the anniversary of the start of WWII for the United States. The day Japan attacked our fleet at Pearl Harbor at 6:05am, 1941. I can’t help but start today with thoughts of appreciation for The Greatest Generation, those tough men and women who fought to save the world-really. Two of my childrens great grandfathers fought, hand to hand in foxholes in Belgium. Thank You & Thank You to all of the men and women who have served our country in such a heroic way.
Those thoughts of tougher times leads me to my topic this morning which is Ownership Thinking. I am often asked the question, “What makes Blu SKY different?” My answer always starts with our people and the way our business was built. You see, we do things the Old Fashioned way at Blu SKY, where you do what you say you are going to do, and you do it in a professional and polite manner. Our secret sauce!
But we also believe that happy employees reduce turnover, help with recruiting, build our reputation, and ultimately mean happy customers. Ownership Thinking, which we introduced to the entire Blu SKY Nation this week, is based on the principle of Open Book Management and Employee Engagement & Rewards at every level within Blu SKY. Having grown from one successful office to nine, we saw Entitlement and miscommunication creep in, hurdles to our goals. Brad Hams, the author of Ownership Thinking has been excellent in his work with us and Ownership Thinking is currently number four on Amazon’s Best Seller List. Brad’s work resembles the concepts found in Jack Stack’s book, The Great Game of Business, sent to me by Curt Richardson, the CEO of Ft.Collins based Otterbox. Both of these books are a great read for anyone looking to engage their employees and build a culture second to none. Brad says his Life Goal is to end Entitlement, and at Blu SKY, we know that success is earned in what we do every day, success is not given.
I said we do things the Old Fashioned way around here, can you imagine those men and women of WWII with thoughts of Entitlement? We are and will remain an award winning Private US Company, working towards common goals with our employees and our customers. We work for our success, so lets get to work!
Have a great day!
